On the nature trail, let's walk along the edge of a freshwater marsh trapped in an urban environment and witness the successful coexistence of nature and man. We combine a cycling tour from Koper to the Škocjan zatok nature reserve and then admire the 2.2 km long circular learning trail on foot with a local guide, then after a tasting and animation we return to Koper by bike on the second cycle path. On a guided tour of the largest brackish semi-saline wetland in Slovenia, you will learn about its ecological importance and its outstanding botanical, zoological and landscape values.
FLORA AND FAUNA OF ŠKOCJAN BAY
Škocjan zatok is an international stopover for migrating birds, located in a pleasant unspoiled environment, where you can watch a variety of cormorants, herons, ducks, foxes, and other birds, listen to birds singing and frogs croaking along the way. We also meet Camargue horses and Istrian cattle, which have adapted to these living conditions. From the observation points we observe the flora and fauna of the nature reserve, birds come very close, and we can see them with the naked eye. From the lookout tower, we have an excellent view of this green heart of Koper, the wildlife, and all the habitats in the reserve. We take some time to observe and photograph the birds and regenerate in our surroundings. Below, you can observe underwater life. Are you ready for this exceptional experience in the heart of nature?
In the multi-purpose room, we invite you to taste local snacks and take part in an educational quiz to consolidate the knowledge we have gained from discovering the natural area in a fun way. The guided tour, animation, and tasting in the nature reserve Škocjan zatok lasts approx. 90-120 min.
