Program

The town of Piran has preserved its medieval character to this day as a compact urban town center surrounded by a city wall. The oldest part is the Punta neighborhood. A fortress was built on the hill above it in the 10th century, where the townspeople retreated in times of danger. In the following centuries, the town could only gradually expand inland as the entire peninsula was built up. The mighty and magnificent walls are complemented by seven preserved defense towers.

Why you shouldn't miss a visit to the Walls of Piran?

  • Iconic views

The beautiful and once again enchanting views of the city of Piran and the walk along the centuries-old wall is an experience that attracts romantics, historians and the best panoramic photographers every year.

  • 7 city gates

The 7 city gates, which were once the entry and exit points through the city walls have been preserved to this day. A stroll around the old town and discovering the gateways is a great opportunity to explore Piran's magical corners.

  • Lighthouse at Punta

Breathtaking views of the entire Piran Bay, the east coast of Italy and in clear weather, the Julian Alps. Climb the stairs of the lighthouse, which was still home to a lighthouse keeper in the 1870s and see Piran and the city walls from a different perspective.

  • Walking tour of the three towers

More than 300 meters of the original wall, 13 towers, 7 city gates, which were once the only entrance to the city, and many sections that are today closely integrated into the more modern infrastructure of Piran, have been preserved to this day.
